10 ChatGPT Prompts for Studying and Self-Reflection

Use five source-grounded study prompts or five cautious self-reflection prompts, depending on the reel that brought you here.

10 ChatGPT Prompts for Studying and Self-Reflection

These prompts can surface patterns worth thinking about. ChatGPT is generating interpretations from limited context, not reading your mind or making a diagnosis.

What this helps you do

This keyword was spoken in two Week 2 videos. Use the section that matches the video you watched:

  • Studying: five source-grounded prompts for prerequisites, recall, contrast, diagrams, and practice questions.
  • Self-reflection: five cautious prompts for patterns, possible futures, and one 30-day action.

Before you start

Choose a regular chat only if you are comfortable with the context ChatGPT may use. Review Settings → Personalization → Memory, or use a Temporary Chat and paste your own context. Do not share passwords, private client data, medical records, or anything you do not want in an online service.

Terms to know

  • Available context: this chat plus memories, files, or past-chat context the product is allowed to use.
  • Inference: a possible conclusion from clues, not a fact.
  • Alternative explanation: another reasonable reading of the same pattern.
  • Highest leverage: the action most likely to create a useful result for the effort required.

Step-by-step

  1. Pick one area of life or work to examine.
  2. Run the five prompts in order in the same chat.
  3. After each response, ask ChatGPT what evidence supports it.
  4. Remove claims that rely on guesses.
  5. Turn the last answer into one safe, specific 30-day experiment.

Use only the course material I provide. If the source does not support an answer, write `Not in the source`.

/PREREQUISITE: Before teaching this topic, list the three ideas I need to understand first, then test each one.

/BRAINDUMP: I will type everything I remember. Compare it only with my files. List what I missed and what I got wrong.

/CONTRAST: Compare these two concepts. Give me the one clue that separates them on a test.

/VISUALIZELEARNING: Create one simple diagram with three labeled parts, then explain how they connect.

/QUESTIONPREDICTOR: Use only my syllabus, learning objectives, and past quiz to write ten practice questions. Do not show the answers until I respond.

If you came from the self-reflection video

Run these one at a time:

Based on everything you know about me, tell me who you think I'm pretending to be versus who I actually am. Separate what I stated directly from what you inferred, and show the evidence for each inference.

Be brutally honest and tell me my deepest insecurities. Treat these as hypotheses, not facts. Give the evidence, one alternative explanation, and up to three questions that would help test each hypothesis.

What's the one cycle I'm stuck in that will keep me average? Describe the trigger, behavior, short-term payoff, and long-term cost. Label anything you cannot support from this chat as a guess.

If I fix this right now, what could my life look like in one, five, and ten years? Give realistic scenarios, not predictions. List the assumptions behind each scenario.

Taking all this into account, what's the highest leverage thing I should do in the next 30 days? Give me one action, the first 15-minute step, a weekly measure, a stop condition, and a review date.

Things to know

An answer can feel personal and still be wrong. “Brutally honest” may push the model toward unnecessary harshness. Replace it with “direct, neutral, and specific” if that is more useful. Do not use these prompts as mental-health, medical, legal, or financial advice. Speak with a qualified person when the topic calls for it.

If something goes wrong

  • If ChatGPT has too little context, give three concrete examples instead of asking it to guess.
  • If the response feels generic, narrow the topic and ask for evidence from your own words.
  • If it sounds certain, request a fact/inference/guess table.
  • If the exercise feels upsetting, stop and speak with someone you trust.
  • If the 30-day action is too large, ask for a version under 15 minutes a day.

Final check

You pass when you have one supported pattern, one credible alternative explanation, one small 30-day action, one measure, and a review date. Leave out any interpretation that cannot meet that bar.
